Abigroup are to undertake all design & construction work on the redevelopment of the Newcastle Mater Hospital & Mental Health Service.
Abigroup has gained extensive experience in the healthcare area, with over 35 successful Health construction projects delivered in the last 10 years. Some of these projects were the Westmead Hospital in Sydney, Royal Brisbane Hospital, the Epworth East & Dandenong hospitals in Victoria & the Mater’s Mother hospital in Brisbane. Our past experience in the field stands us in good stead to ensure work is carried out with minimal disruption to staff, patients & the provision of normal services.
The high standard of Abigroup’s building division has been recognised with Abigroup taking out the National Professional Excellence award for its construction of the Epworth
Eastern Private Hospital in Victoria which was Project Directed by Matthew Davies who is the Projector Director of the Newcastle Mater Hospital.
Infrastructure Partnerships Australia ( IPA ) has named Abigroup as the Industry’s leaders in Contractor Excellence.
Abigroup have also been applauded for its safety initiatives by the Masters Builders Association & was awarded the top award in Construction for Excellence in Site Safety for Commercial Projects above $50 million for its record at the Newcastle Mater Hospital, including no lost time on site to injury since the job started in November 2005.
Our focus was to obtain sub-contractors that work in the Newcastle/Hunter/Central Coast region, which we have successfully done so with over 90 % coming from the local area, including Abigroup’s own site staff which are locally based.

Greg Sweeny - Project Director
Greg replaces Matthew Davies, who has returned to his home in Victoria to take up a position with Abigroup internally, managing PPP bids. Greg is Abigroup's NSW Construction manager and has background as a Civil Engineer. He has been with Abigroup for a number of years and has extensive experience in numerous multi-million dollar construction projects.

Chris Hagan - Client & Communication Manager
Now that the majority of Design has been completed on the Project, the former Design Manager on site, Chris, becomes the new "face" of Abigroup for the Calvary Mater management and staff.
